There doesn't seem to be a lot of response from ppl in the know regards direction for redmine-i18n/l10n.

Can I suggest that the redmine team add a dir to svn trunk called i18n (or something similar) that will contain directories based on the iso-631 codes. The plone mob have such a layout - the reality is it works for them because there is a central repo and it looks like it's used by virtue of everyone submitting to the same space, instead of spread across google docs, transslation99 etc...

It seem the redmine comunity is rapidly growing and it is time to set a real pootle server. Are there any argument agains Pootle?

RE: Translations - Added by Lachlan Musicman over 14 years ago

No arguments here. I've never used it but it looks interesting. You need any help setting it up?

RE: Translations - Added by M K over 14 years ago

I am new to the redmine community and I have no idea, who is exactly responsible for translations documets or how does it works today. Is pootle right idea?

Are there any comunity redmine web server available or any web server can be used! Who decided it? Who needs to be contacted?

@Lachlan Musicman: any help is welcome! (°!//).

I already suggested to use 99translations.com few month ago. It is free for open source projects and has pretty nice interface.

There's a dir in trunk that contains translations: source:/trunk/config/locales

that will contain directories based on the iso-631 codes.

ISO-631 ? This must be a mistake.

I've never used Pootle, so first I'd really like to know the arguments for using it.
Can you describe the process for managing the translation files?

RE: Translations - Added by M K over 14 years ago

http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/toolkit/index
- all information about pootle. Advantages:
  • Terminology List
  • Quality Assurance
  • Online Translation possible
  • Reporting, Overview

Pootle requires gettext (po/mo) files and I did not found any yml2po, po2yml conventor yet.

The 99Translation does not support any quality assurace, but it still provide much more overview as it today.

My bad - I missed it initially

I meant ISO-639, sorry. And the suggestion was based on the previous mistake, so can be safely ignored :)

I think they both look good. Pootle probably seems more active and has a better quality user base

http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootle/live_servers
and
http://pootle.locamotion.org/
versus
http://99translations.com/p?page=1

I'm now checking that pootle has offline translation ability - one thing that 99t does do, but I can't see it on pootle immediately.

The online translation is nice, but I'm unsure how it syncs with a versioning system. But the same goes with pootle - looks like there's a bit of fiddling to do on the part of the project owners. More investigation here would be required.

Are there I18n translation tools? How the translation work is carried out in redmine community?
Who can give me some advice? Thanks very much :)

Hi,

Would you consider using Web Translate It for translating Redmine?

It’s an online collaboration tool for translating websites I am working on, and it’s free for open-source projects.

I uploaded the Redmine project to Web Translate It. You can see it here: https://webtranslateit.com/projects/396-Redmine

It doesn’t sync with a VCS, and I think it’s a feature because you probably want to control and test the translations made before committing them to your repository.

Instead, Web Translate It has an API and a rubygem to upload and download translation files through the API.

The only thing to do is to add a config/translation.yml file in the redmine project. I set it up as an example on my fork on github: http://github.com/edouard/redmine/blob/master/config/translation.yml. Like database.yml, this file should probably not be checked in the repository.

Then, install on you machine the web_translate_it gem: (sudo) gem install web_translate_it

Once installed, you can now execute the following commands from the redmine project root path:

  • wti --fetch to download the latest language files in all languages from Web Translate It,
  • wti --fetch fr to only fetch the french language file,
  • wti --upload en to upload a new version of the English file,
  • wti --help for help.

And if you’re happy with the changes made by the translation team, commit them manually to the repository.

Let me know if you’re interested to give a try, and I will give you admin access to your project.

Hi Edouard, still inetrested?
But it seems it's not free anymore...

RE: Translations - Added by Edouard Brière over 12 years ago

Hey Maxim,

WebTranslateIt is free for open-source projects, and I think it would be of great help for managing Redmine’s translations.

Just let me know if you want to use this project or join the site and create a new one.
