Invalid user or password

Have a new installation of redmine with redmine_ldap_sync plugin installed. Issue is
when signing a user, get this error.
"Invalid user or password". What is being missed here ?
ldap is synced and when testing ( LDAPServers >> LDAPAuth )
for a user it shows
User "a.coatwala":
First name = Abdul Rehman
Last name = Coatwala
Groups = ["AAITEST", "FILM", "SUPP"]
but when signing using this id why does the above error occur.
Knowing it will help trouble shoot it.
