What does "Allow cross-project issue relations" do to redmine?

Added by Jason Morris almost 16 years ago

I am exploring the issue tracking capabilities in Redmine and saw the setting "Allow cross-project issue relations". What effects does this have on Redmine? What can I do now, that I could not do before?

I didn't find much in my searching of the site.

Jason

From http://www.redmine.org/wiki/redmine/RedmineSettings

Allow cross-project issue relations

If set to true, relations between issues from different projects can be created. Default: No

Yes, I read that, but I guess I still don't understand what that means. How do I set up these relations between issues from different projects?

I am probably missing the obvious, but I just don't see what changes/options are in the UI when this is set to Yes.

My guess would be that without this option ticked, you couldn't relate an issue of one project to an issue of another project (i.e. mark as duplicate or blocks or precedes or just relates etc).

You mention the ability to relate an issue of one project to an issue of another project and also to mark things as duplicate, etc, but where does this happen on redmine? I don't see anything like this. Where do you do such tasks?

When you are viewing an issue, at the bottom of the yellow box with the issue details is a sub-heading 'related issues'. To the right of that is a little 'add' link which then allows you to enter the number of a related issue and the reason for the relation (duplicates, blocks, related to etc)
