Internal users see all projects, external users see only theirs

Added by Johann Deneux over 12 years ago

Hi,

We are using Redmine in a corporate settings were external users are allowed to report bugs in projects of which they are member, using a custom-made role "External reporter".

All our projects are private, meaning external reporters cannot see projects we don't want them to see, which is good.

On the other hand, our internal users, i.e. developers, cannot see private projects unless they are members, which isn't so good.

Is there a way to set up Redmine so that internal users can see all projects, but external users can't?

Part of the problem is that the role system is tied to projects, whereas we need site-wide roles.

A possible solution for this could be creating a new user group with all internal users as members. Then you can add this group to all your projects.

We are doing something very similar to Johann's description. Whilst the possible solution would allow internal users to see all projects, it would also mark all internal users as being members to all projects - What we'd like to be able to do is let internal staff see all pof the projects without being members of the projects, so for example their 'jump to project' list does not suddenly include every project, and the list of projects only highlights (with a star) those projects that they are members of.

Is this something anyone else would find useful?

That is exactly what we need in my organization.
We want a role with lower access than "nonmember", so we can assign tickets to external tech support, without giving them access to more info about other projects.
Is there some kind of workaround, like a plugin to replace the "projects" view?
