Export/import csv files

Added by Michael King about 10 years ago

New user question here - I see several references to at least exporting .csv files, but I'm completely stumped about HOW to create that export. Am I overlooking something in a menu? Or do I need a plugin?

Assuming I can figure out how to export, then is there an IMPORT function, such that I could move issues from one installation to another?

Thanks!

exporting what?

look at the bottom of the page
e.g. "Issues" page for any particular project.

"Also available in: Atom | CSV | PDF"

Ah! Of all the places I thought to look, I never looked at the "CSV" staring me in the face - Thanks. Issues were my primary concern!

Now, on to part two - now that I have the cdv file, is there an IMPORT function? My bigger picture is that I've stood up a new server where I'd like to consolidate things and csv sounded like a good way to do this. Or should I have asked about a migration?

Thanks!

well for me:
i move issues/projects around from redmine installation to installation by exporting/importing the database.

this works very well when:
  • you export/import the whole redmine database
  • redmine versions are the same

data from issues relies on data from projects and all of the data then relate to the users, members, roles, etc. so having inconsistencies in the database may or may not cause fatal errors.

I have not used any of the older versions of redmine so I cannot really say, but:
if the database structure (i.e. tables, columns, relationships, naming) is the same between versions, I would say you could probably import the data without any conflicts.

I believe there are plugins for importing csv to create projects, but i am not sure about issues.
I would guess that it would be very do-able.

I've searched for a .csv import plug in - they seem to all be written around Redmine 0.8 or 1. something and I'm trying to move to 2.4... I didn't even try.

Export/Import the database sounds great, but I don't find any commands related to that...can someone give me a hint? Actually something a LOT more complete than a hint would be appreciated. Part of what I'm trying to do is to move from a 2.3 to a new 2.4...I have no clue about compatibility of databases. I'd really like to not be tied to my existing installation forever.

Redmine seems like such a good tool, better than the home-brew tool where I used to work, but it's way hard to deal with - I just want to use it to control work, not make a project out of Redmine migration.

Thanks!
