Redmine on RaspberryPi very slow

Added by Mathias Buder over 6 years ago

Hi together,

I was trying to create "Redmine Server" on my RaspberryPi 1. I was able to install Redmine and Apache succedsfull but it took forever to open the redmine Webpage from my Computer. Both deviced are connected to my LAN. When I check the CPU usage of all running processes using the "top" I realized that, if I try to sutf up redmine a process called "ruby" is using 98% of the CPU. Has anyone faced the same issue?

Hi Mathias,

I don't think that the Raspberry 1st Gen isn't powerful enough to run Redmine in a useable way. I've tried to run several "apps" on the 1st Gen Pi. Owncloud, Nextcloud, Pydio, etc...
All of them where horribly slow. So there is not much to improve. Every "used" x86 box is way more capable for that purpose than the Raspberry.

Kind regards,
Bernhard

PS: My "private cloud" moved completely to VPS and "nerdspace" providers. Higher bandwith and reliability, but yeah... Not YOUR computer!

Hi Bernhard,

thanks a lot for the quick Feedback. In the mean while I coundn't wait and got myself a new RaspberryPi, now Generation 3 model B. Here, redmine runs like a charm. So that was 30 EUR well spend.

Have a good one.

Greetings,
Mathias

Hi Mathias,

nice to hear you had success with the new Pi. The Pi family has made a huge leap from generation 1 to gen 2, performance-wise. By the way, the 1st generation Pi served me very well as OpenVPN server for years.

Have an nice day,

Bernhard
