Upgrade question

I want to upgrade from 3.3.3 to 3.4.10. My current production instance is in /opt/redmine3.3.3 and the new(er) release is in /opt/redmine-3.4.10
So far I have followed the upgrade instructions in the wiki with no issues. But, as I get ready to migrate the database I have a question... Once the new release is installed, how do I get the old release to stop serving and get the web interface to find the new interface? Do I just relink /var/www/html/redmine to the new directory?
