Admin page unavailable when behind a proxy

Hi,
Context
Our Redmine is set up on a box that isn't available from the internet, only on our internal network. For several reasons, we never installed TLS on that box. For convenience if not for security, we use the HTTP authentication and a forward proxy that requires client certificates to work.
redmine box: HTTP Auth required, no TLS
proxy: client certificates required
That enables us to autologin our team members with the client certificate already installed on their computers.
The problem
With the latest version 3.4.2, the admin pages are unavailable through the proxy, while the rest of the app seems to work fine.

By "unavailable", I mean they ask for authentication with a form, not HTTP-Auth, and the HTTP-Auth sent by the proxy appears to be ignored.
