Logging stopped after last update

I had call to look at our Redmine production log and discovered to my horror that the last item logged was immediately prior to our most recent update.

Even though the httpd service has been restarted server times since then I nonetheless tried that first but, as I expected, that had no effect. We made no configuration changes at the time of the upgrade or since to the best of our ability to determine. Certainly, the mtimes of the configuration files are, for the most part, prior to the update.
As far as I can tell from looking into the environment files, Redmine logging configuration has been left at the default settings.
Does anyone have any idea of what is going on?
