Update from 0.9.3 to 1.2 - Problem with email delivery

Hallo,
we have updated our Redmine from version 0.9.3 to 1.2. Here we are just following the instructions on the page http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/RedmineUpgrade.
- copy database.yml to the new redmine folder /config/database.yml
- email configuration in /config/configuration.yml instead of /config/email.yml (simple sendmail configuration)
- copy all files
All rake commands was successful and redmine runs completely, all data are available.
But the problem is, if one sends an email notification, sendmail does not use the sender address but one local user with @hostname.localdomain.
Does anyone have the same problem or someone knows a solution?
Is that an email configuration problem or a permission problem?
