Redmine

I've been installing Redmine from the Ubuntu Repository (10.04)
After installing, I realized the email.yml file was missing. I added it, according to docs, to the conf directory and restarted the machine (putting a restart.txt into the rails root /tmp folder didn't work or had no effect, apache restart didn't work either) and still, the email settings page gives me the following dialog:

Email delivery is not configured, and notifications are disabled.
Configure your SMTP server in config/email.yml and restart the application to enable them.

Any idea what I might do to get this working?
