Questions about repository

Hi, couple questions:Is the Github Hook plugin an active project? The wiki seems to have been deleted. Anyway, wondering if anyone has tried it on redmine 1.3.
What repository system do you use with this redmine site? I'm looking for a solution to connect redmine with SVC, either subversion or git, most likely git. Problem is I'm new to this kinda stuff and it seems like a lot of work to setup git on my own server so that multiple developers can use it. Github seems to be the simplest... so from what I can tell I need to setup some cron jobs to sync my repos with github.
Any thoughts or links to some help?
