Redmine

I am struggling to get back ups working properly on a ubuntu linux machine that I have inherited.
I have the mysqldump part of backing up Redmine working just fine, however when I try to do rsync on /files, it gets much of the way thru and then just hangs up.
I have tried cp on /files, same thing.
I tried tar as well, same thing most of the way thru then it hangs.
I tried mv, and got the following message:
mv: cannot move `./files' to `./files_old': Device or resource busy

I tried this all with Redmine stopped, thinking maybe Redmine needed a file open or something.
I have tracked it down to something in one of these subdirectories which are in /files

• Kbackup
• kworking
• $RECYCLE.BIN

I am looking for a bit of guidance,
Do these files have anything to do with Redmine?
Does anyone know what they might be related to and which process might be using them?
