how Redmine works( ID request) ?

I use Redmine 2.5.1 and I have a doubt about ID request.
In decembre i had a bug from few requests. it was impossible to have a view of this existing request. To see them i changed the ID directly in the table "issue" giving them ID 40000,other requests were around 1500. I completly forgot to delete these requests and now all created requests have the ID 400XX. It didn't seems the case few days ago, all requests created having an ID around 1500.
The application is working fine but i don't really understand why the ID suddenly from 1500 to 40000 2 mounths after the ID change. Is date take into account by Redmine to attribute an ID ? or the ID is only a credentail ID and Redmine taking ino account the most important ID ?
