Redmine

I have used redmine before for some smaller sets of projects, but I am looking to use redmine for a small bioinformatics group. The "project" in this sense is a data analysis project, so we could have dozens of such projects ongoing. When I had last used redmine (about a year ago), support for large numbers of projects was there, but the UI experience, particularly for the front page was a little difficult. Any suggestions on using redmine in the setting of dozens of projects would be appreciated.
