Two ruby installations - can they live together?

I am running Ruby 1.8.7 and Redmine 1.4.4 and want to move to Ruby 1.9.3 and Redmine 2.2.x. But I wish to do this safely and to have way back if something goes wrong. So is it possible to have two ruby installations under Windows platform? How to be sure, that when installing 1.9.3, the old 1.8.7 will not get corrupted?
My current installation is
ruby 1.8.7 + mongrel service 1.5 + Redmine 1.4.4
I want to move to
ruby 1.9.3 + thin + Redmine 2.2.x
