Redmine Installation Issues

I'm a new to Redmine 2.1.2 and Ruby and have spent a couple of days trying to get the software running on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS.
I now have the following error...
A source file that the application requires, is missing.
It is possible that you didn't upload your application files correctly. Please check whether all your application files are uploaded.
A required library may not installed. Please install all libraries that this application requires.
Further information about the error may have been written to the application's log file. Please check it in order to analyse the problem.
Error message:no such file to load -- dispatcher.
I've trawled the Internet for solutions, but this one has me stumped. If anyone can give me a pointer, that would be useful, many thanks.

Do you use plugins? If so, please try without any plugins. Does the error persist?
No, this is a clean install.
I've switched to using a BitNami image, which works. This will get me going, so consider this thread closed.
