Description

Currently the server administrator needs to setup a new instance and copy the contents of an existing redmine to run the new version. Would a feature to realize the update within redmine, s.a. an automatic update provided by redmine itself be feasible?

This feature, if realizable, would probably have to include a check for the required context (rails environment etc.) It would IMHO be only required to realize Redmine Self Update within the same minor release, where x.y.z = z minor such that if 1.2.2 gets upgraded to 1.2.3 update can be easily done within redmine itself by simply pressing "UPDATE"

Closed as a duplicate of #8119. Regarding the feature: Jean-Philippe Lang wrote in #8119 .note-1:

If you're talking about Redmine updating itself, it's pretty hard because it implies administrator rights to restart the instance. I don't think it will ever be integrated to the core.
