anyone write a login plugin type thing?

I'm looking to do a web single signon type thing, and was wondering if someone had already written one.
Or perhaps automatically creating users from another mysql table/system??
Just looking for examples. I'm willing to handle writing a new one, but I'm new to rails.

Not yet, there's some discussion about making the authentication more flexible so plugins can add their own system.
