automated issue content insertion

I'm considering Redmine but need to be able to automatically create issues from scripts (typically bash or ruby scripts) - I need to be able to pre-populate numerous fields of an issue.
Can you point me to any HOWTO (I couldn't find one) for how to make auto-issue insertions to Redmine?
