Issue with new installation ...

Added by Dr. Ing. Dieter Jurzitza over 8 years ago

Dear listmembers,
I've set up a new installation of server (linux / opensuse "leap 4.1") and redmine (3.1.0). Currently I am facing a somewhat strange problem with access via network that I do not understand.

apache2 ist working as expected on the new server. I can access the "It works" page from anywhere in the network. via http://SERVERIP. There is no difference whether the firewall is up and running or whether it is shut down.

However, when trying to access http://SERVERIP:3000/ I get a connection timeout when trying from other hosts in the local network. In contrast, when issuing the command http://localhost:3000/ or http://127.0.0.1:3000/ in a local browser, everything works as expected, the redmine login prompt is presented. On the local machine http://SERVERIP:3000/ does not work as well. Any ideas for me?

This is not a firewall problem, this is not an apache problem - and I do not have the slightest idea how to address it. IMHO something in redmine(?) is preventing remote access on the port 3000 on the redmine server - anybody having any hint / idea what to search for?

Many thanks for your support,
take care

RE: Issue with new installation ... found a solution ... fixed it (for me ....) - Added by Dr. Ing. Dieter Jurzitza over 8 years ago

Dear listmembers,
to whom it might concern ....

After a long and boring struggle I found the culprit. The default start of the server refers now to 127.0.0.1:3000 rather than 0.0.0.0:3000 as before ... therefore redmine is accessible from the local machine, but never from other hosts in the intranet (or whereever).

Therefore the startup-call needs a "-b 0.0.0.0" in order to get access from the intranet again and to make the server listen to calls from anywhere.

Took me quite a while to find out. Maybe it would be a good idea to include this in the installation description for redmine? Just my two cents. Otherwise one is searching for something one hardly gets aware of. Caught me when trying to upgrade redmine 2.3.3 to redmine 3.1.0.

Take care & thank you for a superb program!
