Really bad performance when editing workflows

We have a decently complex install of Redmine with over 200 statuses, 100 trackers, 100 projects, 80,000 issues, and close to 300 users. When we make workflow changes on a complex tracker (workflow table has 1500 records for this tracker) It takes 2 hours to complete locking up Redmine in the process. Obviously, this is pretty un-manageable. Does anyone out there have a similarly sized Redmine configuration and if so how do you manage your workflows?
