Status is not updated to assigned if a person is chosen

Added by Daniel N almost 16 years ago

Hi there,
I am running a redmine 0.7.1 with a few projects and mercurial scm integration and currently miss the feature that if a ticket is assigned to a project member the ticket status itself keeps "new" (unassigned) and does not change automatically to "assigned" as I would expect. I have to first assign the ticket to a member and second set the status to "assigned". Do I miss something? Do I need to setup some sort of workflow for this to work? Thank you for your help!

Hi Daniel,

If I remember well, is not a bug, it's a feature ^^.

From my POV, there's should be a project option to automagically switch status from new and reopen to assigned when a user is set. But I can understand that's not a default behavior: there's too much people who open issue and assign them randomly to someone: that's really annoying and prevent the team to work properly.

Hi Thomas! Thank you for your reply. Ok, now I understand.
But you can prevent normal/unprivileg users - reporters - to assign tickets to persons by customizing the workflow, cant you? Personally I have used mantis for a some time and I think assigning a ticket to a team member is special a "role" or "right". I think in redmine this is the same? I am quite new to redmine so maybe I am wrong...

Hi, Daniel
The workflow is about managing the "Status" changing by the users, not the "Assigned To" field.
There should be a right for "Assign issues", I think.
I don't know why it's not implemented yet, considering the random assigning as Thomas said :)
