I think any community that shares code can make very good use of a pastebin and it would make a great addition to the features provided in Redmine.

Some of the things I would like to see are:
  1. Diff views when comparing revisions.
  2. Syntax highlighting.
  3. Optional expiration time.
When the time expires the code is deleted.
  4. Optional private codes.
    Password protected.
Select specific registered members that are allowed to view it.

1 & 2 are the only ones that are important to me but I expect others would inevitably request the other things I mentioned as well.

Couldn't a wiki page do this? You can you the pre and code class="..." tags to syntax highlight.

That's true but more of a temp solution. I don't mind having a pastebin public for anyone to use, but I would rather keep my Wiki pages only editable by registered users or even specific roles.
Basically what I'm saying is I need to assign separate role permissions for each.

I've started writing a plugin to fill the gap: https://github.com/commandprompt/redmine_pastebin

It doesn't come with a lot of features yet, but you might want to give it a try :p
