As seen in source:trunk/app/models/custom_field.rb@17108#L34 http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/repository/entry/trunk/app/models/custom_field.rb#L28 30 character limit should be increased to at last 255, the only justification for 30 characters is some table view, but then it's up to customers, not up to system to enforce such limitation, because in some use-case scenarios custom fields must be longer.
