Use of Categories

Is the Category field any different to a custom field with the name Category? Are there functions that are only possible with the Category field? Would it make sense to remove those static fields and replace them with default custom fields?

You can assign a user to a category, this user will then be assigned a new ticket if no assignee is defined.

Ah yes, I have overseen this.

However, and this may be another feature request, I'd like to assign an ticket to a group (department), not to a single person. This is not possible right now, correct? Though groups were introduced.
