Change the Project ID

Added by Fernando Sancho over 14 years ago

Hello everyone. I've been using Redmine for some months. In that time I created some projects associated with SVN repositories. Now I realize that the name of the repository does not match the ID project. I want to fix that problem but I find it problematic to rename the repository because many people are using them. So I want to change the identifier of the project but is a field that can not be changed from the web interface. So my question is. If I change the project id from the database can I break something?

I want the project id and the repository have the same name to use Redmine for subversion authentication.

AFAIK, it would only break external links pointing to your projects, and internal links in wiki fields.

Another solution that could be softer for everyone could be to rename your repo and make an alias from the old to the new name in your apache / other webserver config. E.g.: You rename your repo from my-project to other-project, and just a line like Alias other-project my-project in your svn vhost (WARNING: this is is off the top of my head, so the syntax is most probably wrong, tell me if you need more help or advice).

Thank you very much for the advice. Since there was little activity on the wiki projects I've decided to change the Project ID without any negative impact to date.
