Parent-Child Projects

I'm wondering, if anybody has some (maybe best practice) information about working with parent/child projects or can link me to existing documentation. In detail:
If I have two related projects how to organize them best? As two related projects under the roof of a parent project, as two unrelated, independent projects, ore maybe even one as a child project of the other?

What differences (if any) in use of Redmine-functions and project administration result from different nested project-structures, for example about sharing of members, issues, road maps, whatever?
Any hints/experiences available?
