Customer Portal

What is the best way to implement a customer portal? Ideally, the basic requirement that I'd like to implement are: Customer can add, edit, and view their own defects and features, but nothing else. The only way that I think I can implement this currently is to create a new product, like Product1-Customer37 and re-enter the defects and features that I want them to see in there.

Is there a better way? Thanks,

Maybe it's better to use «Customer» role and set permissions only for view and create issue?
