File storage system

Hi all, I think I understand this but just want to get confirmation.
When files are uploaded into Redmine, they are stored as individual files per the following:
"All uploaded files are stored at the /{install dir}/files directory.
The uploaded file name is prefixed with a unique id based on it's parent for directory storage."
To contrast, this means they are not lumped into one larger mega-file with an index (similar to how Apple stores photos - one big file with a bunch of pieces). Correct?
Just verifying because my org is preparing to distribute some larger files via our Redmine implementation and don't want to bring our server down.
