API for topics, boards and messages (forums)

Hey does anyone know if there is some development being done around the api for topics, boards and messages? Or if there is any plugin that adds this functionality? We would like to sync threads from an app into redmine forums but the lack of an api is kind of limiting and developing something for it would be a bit of a pain due to the fact of having to maintain it.
