How to configure Redmine and postfix postfix to send email notifications?

I would like to know how to configure postfix and Redmine for example to send an email to a user who has an account on gmail or hotmail.

I looked at the file config/email.yml but do not quite understand.

You need an outgoing mail server, i.e. a server you can send mails to. If you have a mail account from your ISP or similar, it's the SMTP server.
