howto automatic update of %Done based spent time/estimated time?

Hi
I have been fiddling with %Done and reached the conclusion that I need a bit of help.
The documentation gives me 2 options:
1. Let users set the %Done manually
2. Embed the %Done in the status.
As I hint in the subject I would prefer to have an automatic calculation based on the developers current time spend and the managers guesstimate on the total time needed.
I can see other request on similar subjects but I cant seem to find a solution, any help appreciated.
