Questions related to some application settings (attach. max size & wiki compression)

Added by Thomas Zlika over 13 years ago

Hi all,

I have some questions related to some application settings:
  • The default value for attachement max size is only 5MB, which is quite low. Is there any limitation related to this max size ? Is it possible to enter a big max size like 200MB, or this would bring some problems ?
  • The Wiki compression is disabled by default. What are the drawbacks to activate it ? (server slower ? Not very good compression rate ? ...). By the way, is it possible to delete old wiki history to lower the size of the database ?

Thank you for your answers.

Thomas

IIRC at least downloads from an SCM (i.e. in the repo view, for which this should apply too) are copied in-memory and sent to the browser after that, but I think this applies to all file downloads. Anyway, the problems you could face are faster growth of the diskspace redmine needs on the server, and if I'm not mistaken with my previous affirmation serious memory consumption.

The drawbacks are more CPU cycles used on the server, though if your server is sturdy enough it shouldn't really matter. I don't know of a way to delete old wiki history, but you shouldn't be concerned with that if you plan on allowing 200MB attachments :-)
