Email error - gmail

I have followed the gmail instructions, but receive the following error when attempting to send a test email from redmine :

An error occurred while sending mail (Expected /home/sites/projects/current/app/models/version.rb to define VERSION)

Googling around hasn't yielded any answers. Hopefully someone here can assist. I'm using Redmine 1.0.3

What ruby/rack/rails/redmine versions are you using?

Rails 2.3.5, Ruby 1.9.2p0, Rack 1.2.1 or 1.0.1 (both installed), and Redmine 1.0.3

Redmine isn't currently supported on ruby 1.9, see RedmineInstall for the exact versions that should work.

(and sorry I overlooked you had already stated what redmine version you are using…)

That's a shame and interesting actually because everything else works perfectly including half a dozen plugins etc. The only problem is this email one.

Ruby 1.9 changes lots of things, especially handling of strings and encodings, I'm rather surprised you're not having more problems…
