Notification emails in version 1.2.1

We're using redmine 1.2.1 and have a problem with the sent emails. For one project we get an email notification when a ticket is created or updated. For another project all of us don't get any email notifications. I've exactly the same roles in both projects and my setting for notification is 'for all events in all my projects'. Is it somewhere possible to define notifications for specific projects?
Or should we updated to an newer version? Which version is compatible to 1.2.1?

You should update, your version has serious security issues and is years old.

You can update to redmine version 2.2.3 it will be ok. But don update to 2.3.0, your email will have problem on sedding email like me (http://www.redmine.org/boards/2/topics/37326)
