Upgrade advice 0.6.3 to current

Due to changing support teams it turns out we've fallen far behind the current release. We are now looking to upgrade. Is it advisable to upgrade all the way from 0.6.3 to 0.8.2 in one step? Should we make a stop at one of the version 0.7.x releases on the way? Basically, how far back is the migration tool good for?
