Thumbnails macro not exporting image to pdf normal or bug ?

Hi simple question if i use the the macro:
{{thumbnail(5.png, size=400)}} insteath of !!5.png! it wil not be included in the pdf export is this correct ?
If so is there an other way of doing it ? or do i have to manualy resize every picture before adding ?
Environment:
os Centos 7
Redmine version 3.3.0.stable
Ruby version 2.3.1-p112 (2016-04-26) [x86_64-linux]
Rails version 4.2.6
Environment production
Database adapter Mysql2
SCM:
Subversion 1.7.14
Git 1.8.3.1
Filesystem
Redmine plugins:
redmine_ldap_sync 2.0.8.devel.g341b902df1
redmine_lightbox2 0.3.1
Any one with any advice at all ?
