How do you restart the application?

Folks:

In many places, the Redmine documentation states that you must "restart the application" before a change takes
effect.

But nowhere can I find a description of exactly what I should do to restart it. (There are lots of processes involved
in running to support Redmine...)

What should I do? Many thanks.
