Multi project privacy in Redmine

Added by Clement Vidal about 14 years ago

Hi,

I have a question concerning how redmine manage multi-project:

I'm working in an office with several other very small company.
All of those company are working in IT domain and probably need tools and functions that Redmine offer.

I would like to setup an "inter-company" redmine server,
in order for each company to be able to manage it's own Redmine project.

But as you might guess, each of those Redmine project should be independant from each other, as certain informations contained in the Redmine databases should not be shared with others company.

Is it possible, with the current Redmine release, to manage in the same install, several projects where acces is only authorized to company members ?
Event the global redmine admin should not be able to acces the content of each individual projects, he should only be able to create new project.

To be short:
Does several projects from several unrelated company can coexist in one Redmine install?

I haven't installed Redmine yet, so i ask this to be sure that this is posible.

Thanks for your help.

Redmine has a pretty fine-grained permission system, have a look at the guides about the roles and permissions for more information about that.

In the end, you will need to have an administrator in redmine, but since you also need someone to take care of the database, you already have someone who has access to everything. Concerning the specific request of being able to create new projects without gaining insight into others projects, there are 2 permissions that will make that possible for you, the "create project" permission, and the "add child project" permission. I think you will find that the permission system probably provides the granularity you need.

Ah, and I'd really recommend you to try it for yourself, there's even no installation needed if you download the turnkey package from the download page, as it gives you a virtual machine with everything already configured to some sensible defaults.
