multiple installs of Redmine

Greetings,

After showing Redmine to my dev/qa team I was asked about being able to support our customer support team. I think it is possible but having read Feature #5765, Issue Numbers per Project, which has been closed, I was worried that the volume of supporting customer support would cause the issue number space to become overrun. The customer support groups logs direct customer feedback on a per issue basis so the volume would be much, much, larger than the "normal" development issue volume.

Has anyone had any experience with supporting different groups where the issue volume is 10x different? Did this issue come up? Did it matter? i.e. Having two sequential development issues created that could be tens or hundreds of numbers apart.

Would having two separate installs get around this? Which I don't want as I would like to be able to connect a customer support issue directly to the development issues related to it.
