Is Redmine Dead?

Added by Paul Carlisle about 13 years ago

I began looking into Redmine for project management a couple days ago. Although I generally like what I've seen, it is troubling that there is so little documentation and that so little of it is recent; it is difficult to find postings less than three years old.

Much of it seems to be faulty, as well. Installation instructions vary greatly, contradict one another, and none I've found are lacking substantial errors. Also, a search for the Embedded Plugin, required to incorporate Doxygen-generated HTML pages, turns up nowhere to download it from; again, the last release was made several years ago, and this plugin seems to now be completely unavailable.

If Redmine is dead, please just tell me, and I won't waste any more time on it. If there is a more recent website or source for plugins or decent documentation, please point me to it.

It is alive. The last release of Redmine 1.1.2 and was released on 03 March 2011. If you take a look at the repository, you will see commits almost every day.
What about installation instructions, they could be better, it took me several days to establish my installation procedure. Till then, however, I made several times upgrades and hadn't any problems.

OK. Do you happen to know where the Embedded Plugin went?

Yes, I saw the Wiki entry. There is not, however, any place to download it from, despite this and numerous other references to the plugin.

Not dead at all. It is one of our most popular downloads at BitNami (http://bitnami.org/stack/redmine) if that is of any indication. We use internally too for our projects :)

From the wiki page:

Installation

The plugin can be installed by running the following command from your redmine directory:

ruby script/plugin install http://redmine.rubyforge.org/svn/plugins/embedded

Then restart Redmine.
