Redmine Roadmap question

Please pardon my ignorance, but I am not a developer, so I don't know how the Roadmap works in regard to if fixes get rolled into later versions.

My question is about what is listed in the Roadmap for different versions. For instance, in the Roadmap for version 4.0.2, defect #30285, that Microsoft SQL support is broken, is listed. However, that same defect is not listed for version 4.1.0. Does that mean that the #30285 defect will not get fixed in 4.1.0? If it will get fixed in 4.1.0, how does defect #30285 get documented as fixed in the 4.1 version?

Hey George,

good question! In general every chance is applied to the trunk, the main development branch. This is where major versions like 4.0.0 or 4.1.0 are released from.
Sometimes it's beneficial to have changes in older versions, too. To fix bugs or close severe security holes. In these cases the patches are also applied on older versions to keep them safe and useful.
In these cases the target version is set to the support release as it's the first time the change goes public.

So to sum it up...
The defect #30285 is available 4.0.2 first but is also included in 4.1.0 and every release in the future.

Thank you Bernhard. I thought the defects must be fixed in later versions, but I had no idea how it was handled.

The target version of #30285 is 4.0.2 for now, but it will never be included in the future releases unless activerecord-sqlserver-adapter supports Rails 5.2. There is nothing the Redmine community can do with the issue.
