Settings questions
Added by John Goerzen almost 17 years ago
Hi folks,
I've got a couple of questions about settings.
First, what are the pros and cons of using gzip for wiki history? It's off by default -- any reason for that?
Secondly, what exactly is autologin?
Finally, under Administration -> Settings -> Email Notifications, what exactly does this screen control? It occurs to me that there are (at least) two possible interpretations: one could be that it controls the set of things that people are allowed to watch. The other could be that it controls the default set of things that people get mail for if they sign up for "for any event" on the My Account page. Or perhaps something else that I haven't thought of.
Thanks,
-- John

I'm no superuser by no means, hope it's ok that I try to answer from what I think I understand:
gzip - dunno
autologin - the ability to "stay logged in" (will appear on the login-screen if chosen).
email notification - the latter seems to be the right interpretation.

Yeah, I know what gzip is. My question is: why is it an option? Having it an option implies that some people want it, and others don't, and I want to know why that is.

I would think it would be an option because:
- Redmine might be installed on a system without gzip support
- Gzip is compression and can take CPU. On lower end computer systems, this might affect overall performance
