Moving all data from old redmine to new redmine

Added by Jasen Burkett about 9 years ago

Is it possible to take all existing projects and basically export all data from old version (really really old version) of redmine to our new install?

Hi Jasen,

Just to make sure I understood, you have 2 instances of Redminebeing actively used, an old one and a new one and you would like to merge them.
It's not an upgrade of the old system.
Correct?

If the new instance is empty, it's easy to bring the old instance's database into it. A merge is terribly difficult.

Cheers,

Basically we have close to the first version of redmine, we did not want to lose the data we have in it by attempting to upgrade to the latest, so we build a new redmine install on a new EC2 AWS instance (new server) and I installed the new verison of redmine on to that. I started making some new projects, but thought that if I could just import the data from the old version and have all of that in the new one, it would save me some time.

that was what I meant.

Thanks in advance

I moved forum from "development" to "help".

I will be deleting this topic as the link you provided answered my questions well enough.

I do however need some help being new to redmine, where as getting emails into redmine as new issues is not
panning out for me at all.

I have scoured google, and even the redmine.org forum, and documentation and can not get anything to work.

Would you be willing to help me on this? I recently updated my other post with the latest.

It can not be this difficult. Thank you for your time.
