Is it possible to assign issue to a person who is NOT a user?

Hello,

in our organization we work with other organizations who have not access to our Redmine. For many reasons, we won't give them accounts to our platform. So we need to assign issues to them to without creating users for them.

How could we achieve that?

A solution that would be OK for us, would be to have a text field in "Assign" field instead of a list in the issue tracker. Is that possible?

Such is not supported by a vanilla Redmine.

Reading that I thought about an 'Assign' custom field using either a free text field or a predefined list. That would be the ultimate basic KISS solution for such a use case. There also are several (mainly Customer handling and CRM) plugins that provides solutions that range from simple to advanced and from opensource to commercial, opensource-restricted.
