Redmine

Preview the text content of Microsoft Outlook .msg attachments directly from Redmine issues. The plugin displays From, To, CC, Subject, Date, and the message body without requiring users to download the file. Plain-text messages are preferred, with HTML-to-text fallback for messages that do not contain a plain-text body. Embedded Outlook MSG attachments are not extracted or displayed.

Requirements:

- Redmine 6.1.x
- Ruby version supported by the Redmine installation
- ruby-msg version 1.5.x
- Local Redmine attachment storage

Installation:

1. Copy the redmine_msg_preview directory into the Redmine plugins directory:

plugins/redmine_msg_preview

2. From the Redmine application root, install the plugin dependency:

bundle install

3. Run the standard Redmine plugin migration command:

bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate RAILS_ENV=production

This plugin does not create database tables, but the command is included for standard Redmine plugin deployment.

4. Restart Redmine.

5. Attach a .msg file to a Redmine issue and open the attachment preview to verify the installation.

The plugin previews the message text and displays From, To, CC, Subject, and Date. Plain-text content is preferred. If the MSG contains only HTML, the plugin converts it to readable text. Embedded attachments inside an Outlook MSG file are not extracted or displayed.

The plugin checks access through the parent Redmine issue and does not render arbitrary MSG HTML inside the Redmine page.

Uninstallation:

Remove plugins/redmine_msg_preview and restart Redmine. The plugin creates no database tables or stored settings, so no database rollback or data cleanup is required.
