Edit .txt files attached to Redmine issues with immutable version history, comparison, conflict detection, restore, and Redmine journal audit entries. The plugin preserves previous versions, respects Redmine attachment permissions, and provides read-only access to version history.
Installation notes
Requirements:
- Redmine 6.1.x or later
- Ruby, Rails, and database versions supported by the Redmine installation
- Local Redmine attachment storage
- No additional gems or system packages
Installation:
1. Copy the redmine_txt_editor directory into the Redmine plugins directory:
plugins/redmine_txt_editor
2. From the Redmine application root, run the plugin migrations:
bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate \
RAILS_ENV=production \
NAME=redmine_txt_editor
3. Restart Redmine.
4. Open Administration → Plugins → TXT Attachment Editor → Configure and review the plugin settings.
Existing attachments are not changed during installation. The original file content is recorded as version 1 only when the first edit is saved.
The default maximum editable file size is 5 MB. Editing and restoring files require Redmine's native attachment edit permission. Version history respects normal Redmine attachment visibility rules.
The plugin supports immutable version history, comparison, conflict detection, restore, and Redmine journal audit entries.
Uninstallation:
Back up any version history that must be retained, then run:
bundle exec rake redmine:plugins:migrate \
RAILS_ENV=production \
NAME=redmine_txt_editor \
VERSION=0
Remove plugins/redmine_txt_editor and restart Redmine.
Rolling back the migration permanently removes the plugin's version-history table. Existing attachment files and native Redmine journal entries remain intact.
