How can I set default for issue start date to be nothing?

Added by Beau Simensen over 13 years ago

I'd like to have the default start date for issues to be nothing. Is this possible? If so, where would I change that setting? Having a start date default to the creation date is not what I expect. I may often not have a start date in mind.

Not without patching the core. See issue #2277 which includes a patch.

Note though, that Redmine 1.0.2 (according to issue-property; probably 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 are affected too) upto current-stable 1.0.3 includes a defect regarding the start-date property; see #6575. It's currently fixed in the trunk, merged into 1.0-Stable and planned for release with Redmine 1.0.4.

IMHO the work on an issue isn't started right away the same day when an issues is created. Therefore it makes no sense to have the start date set to the date of issue creation by default. It renders Gantt chart etc. kind of useless if the start date implies a wrong picture about the status of an issue.

I really opt for an configuration switch which should default to NOT set the date of creation as start date.
