Redmine (Bitnami dwnload) will not connect over internet

Added by Robert Lewis over 13 years ago

We had to re-install Redmine due to system failure. Now we cannot connect to Redmine except locally
http://192.168.1.205:3000/redmine
this works correctly

- the router is port forwarded for port 3000, and that passes the checks, if we stop the services on the port the port tester verifies the port is open
- ping using servername.dyndns.org works to the server
- all the process's are started (localhost connection works)
But we time out on external connections

http://servername.dyndns.org:3000/redmine fails

which makes me think that redmine is listening on another port we don't know about

I have looked through the doc sets and forums and they appear to point to port 3000, although I did see appache listening on port 3001

Is there a further configuration someone can direct us to please? BitNami recommends this forum

We are at a loss here, so any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I am not sure that your problem has something common with my problem a month ago, but I'll describe it as it may help you.

I had run Redmine by "ruby script\server -e production" from command line - neither as a service nor behind Apache. It worked well and fast in our network (192.168.20.xx). Then I tried to access Redmine via VPN from my home. I received very long delays, about 50-60 seconds before a page appears in Firefox. Not the same when I made Remote Desktop Connection to the server (via the same VPN). Then Redmine pages began to appear fast. Redmine logs showed that it responded fast but something else after Redmine introduced delays.

Then I installed Redmine as service (mongrel server as service <---> Apache server with mod_proxy_balancer). I installed three instances of Mongrel service at ports 3001, 3002 and 3003. Apache listens at port 80 and the end users just write "http://redmine.mycompany.com" without port value. redmine.mycompany.com is an internal domain and can be seen via VPN only.

This is a description of this installation.
